Who's Who !

Cynthia Gagen

Cynthia Gagen has been crafting for as long as she can remember, learning her beginning skills by crafting alongside her mother. She has designed and taught the art curriculum in elementary schools and summer camps as well as teaching arts and crafts to children and adults in Scout groups, church groups, home classes, and in retail settings. Her crafting interests are varied and eclectic, ranging from mixed media, silk ribbon embroidery, and paper quilling to scrapbooking, rubber stamping, and much more..

Cyn enjoys finding ways to craft on a budget, often utilizing found items and supplies from around the house or from out of the recycling bin. Because of this, she has been dubbed Cyn the Everyday Crafter, a name so suited to her that she has adopted it for her Facebook fan page. Cyn is the co-host of the show In the Zone with Roberta Birnbaum Cohen and hosts several shows on her own: In the Kitchen, In the Budget, In the Spirit, In the Home, and In the Season.

Cyn is a member of the C & T Publishing Creative Troupe as well as being one of their Surface Design Ambassadors. She is also a proud Fiskateer! She is a busy writer maintaining several blogs on a variety of topics including her love of cooking, her artwork, creative fictional writing, and her own unique view of the world. She is currently working on several e-books, the first of which will be on Crafting on a Budget. Her background and love of being a teacher means that she provides detailed and easy to follow tutorials for her craft projects on her art blog on a regular basis.

Cyn lives in Ontario, Canada with her daughter (when she’s home from university), their big lap dog of a German Shepherd and three cats but her heart belongs in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas where she attended university. Family, fun, creativity, and laughter are high priorities in Cyn’s life and what she has built her world around.

Roberta Birnbaum Cohen loves art- anything art and there is no medium she will not try. Robi found crafting ‘later in her life’ – she almost failed Art class in High School. However, growing up in a home filled with laughter and love; and love for art, music, history, and languages must have had an impact on her.  She has a degree in Economics, and Administrative & Commercial Studies from the University of Western Ontario. Robi studied ballet at The National Ballet of Canada as a young girl and is a skilled pianist.  Growing up with a mother who made her feel that she could accomplish anything and to never fear trying something new has obviously contributed to her fearless approach to life and art.

Robi has taken many courses in Art and Art History.  She studied with internationally renowned watercolourist David McEown for several years, and has taken classes in sketching, acrylics, mixed media, drawing, metal working and stained glass.  Painted glass trivets in a faux stained-glass style is one of her favourite creations.  Paper crafts, including card making, occupies most of her time these days.

Along with Cyn Gagen, Robi hosts In the Zone on the Creative EdVentures Network; an online LIVE webTV crafting show. The show always has a weekly theme.  Robi also hosts her own weekly show, Robi@Nite, also on webTV, and this show focuses on: Roberta’s latest discoveries, art demos, discussions about art-relevant health topics, and how crafters can cope with various disabilities and still lead a productive crafting life! Her company, Decorables, has been in existence for 8 years.

Roberta is a member of the C&T Publishing Creative Troupe and is also a member of the Fiskateers!

Robi lives in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada: a beautiful town, just north of Toronto, with her incredibly encouraging and supportive husband.  Her three children, ages 27, 23 and 18 – complete her world.
